The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) continues to expand its online services, introducing changes intended to make tax payments, corporate tax filing, and account management more convenient.
Here are three updates Canadian business owners should be aware of.
1. New CRA Payment Options: Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Konek
As of October 2026, the CRA has expanded its electronic payment options to include Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Konek.
These options provide additional ways to make tax payments through participating financial institutions.
- Apple Pay and Google Pay: Support eligible debit cards, including Visa Debit and Debit Mastercard.
- Konek: Supports Interac Direct payments from eligible bank accounts, along with Visa Debit and Debit Mastercard through participating institutions.
It is important to note that CRA’s My Payment service does not accept regular credit cards through these payment methods.
These additional options may make it easier for individuals and businesses to manage tax payments using their preferred banking services.
2. Easier Access to T2 Web Access Codes
Corporations filing their income tax returns electronically may need a Web Access Code (WAC).
The CRA provides an online service that allows corporations to obtain a T2 Web Access Code without waiting for one to arrive by mail.
The code can be used with compatible tax preparation software to transmit a corporation income tax return electronically.
For businesses working with an authorized accountant, other electronic filing options may also be available without requiring a Web Access Code.
3. Keep Corporate Director and Officer Information Updated
The CRA is reminding corporations to maintain accurate information about their directors and officers.
If a director or officer joins or leaves a corporation, or their information changes, the appropriate records should be updated promptly.
Outdated information can cause problems when:
- Accessing My Business Account
- Authorizing an accountant or other representative
- Managing corporate tax information
- Accessing certain CRA online services
Corporations should ensure their information is current with the relevant corporate registry and the CRA, where required.
What Does This Mean for Your Business?
Although these changes may appear administrative, they can affect how efficiently businesses handle their tax obligations.
Keeping corporate information up to date, maintaining access to CRA online accounts, and understanding available payment options can help avoid unnecessary delays.
